General Nonsense

I am finally back to work after the Thanksgiving holiday and I assure you I wasn’t excited to return. I did anyway, mainly because I like getting paid.

I won’t comment much on sports. The Flyers are still, well, the Flyers. The Eagles are just a giant pile of suck. End sentence.

We are still working on trying to get some sort of street hockey game going. It looks like our first game/attempt should be December 9th. That doesn’t leave much time for me to get in some sort of shape. I was digging through my old equipment and most of it is just that; old. I should still be able to use my old Easton aluminum hockey stick, although it does have a crack near the blade. I’ll see how long it holds out before investing in another. On the way home from work I stopped at The Sports Authority and checked out their hockey section. It was really rather poor. I did end up picking up some street hockey balls, a mini-net, and a pair of CCM hockey gloves on clearance. What can I say, the price was right. I did find my old hockey blades, but I think they might be a size too small. The games will start out all without skates, mainly so no one breaks anything major. Otherwise, I might see some new skates and a stick in the near future.

And maybe an oxygen tank. I might need it.

It came to my attention on IRC this afternoon that some people might be interested in playing some “recreational hockey.” I used to play hockey all the time back in my high school days, and wouldn’t mind getting back into it. Back in those days some of the games turned into slashfests and near brawls. That, however, really was the fun of it.

I really need to get in shape though. I think if I ran for more then 30 seconds I would pass out.

On the next trip to my parents house I’ll have to dig around and see if I can locate any of my old equipment. I bet some of that old stuff should look and smell pretty interesting after being shoved in a closet for a decade…

I have made a few more changes to the new site. I added some of the old links to the link list on the right sidebar. I added an (empty) About page as well as the standard GPG key page. I also added links to my Gallery, older pictures pages (pre-gallery), my geocaching page, as well as my old archives. All is still there and working perfectly. I was actually thinking of writing a script to convert my old posts (all in the MySQL database) to the new WordPress format and them import them into the new database. However, I think the old archiving system works just fine for now. The Categories section will also grow with time as more posts are made. So far so good!

Ok. I was just too attached to the oddprocess.org domain. I just couldn’t shake it. I’ll keep the new one for “future considerations,” but otherwise I have moved the new WordPress weblog back to the oddprocess.org domain. I promise this is the last move, so you can feel free to adjust your bookmarks/favorites one last time. One thing I have always felt strongly about was keeping all of my old archives. I have been keeping weblog of some sort since February 1st, 2000. That is a really long time that has a lot of my daily nonsense in the database, and I’ve kept every post since day one. I just need to add a link section to the old archives, pictures, and other miscellaneous pages.

As you can probably see, I’ve made a few changes. For a long time people I have thought about the idea of moving or converting my website to WordPress. After a few trials and tests, I finally took the plunge. WordPress is just too nice to NOT use. It is very actively maintained and there are ton of nice themes and add-ons that can be used as well. It just doesn’t make sense to not use it. The install was easy enough. I think the hardest part was actually picking out a new domain name. I could have used the old one, but it was getting a bit stale. I needed a change and this one seemed more then fitting.

And not just because the Flyers are off to their worst start in their 40 year existence. Well, that sure helped.

There isn’t much to look at just yet. I am working on converting the old pictures and the gallery setup to the new site. It will take some time, but that is mainly because I am really lazy. But all in good time.
