General Nonsense

The Flyers are back to totally suckage. They are 8-21-4. That means 8 wins, 25 losses.

I’ll say that again. 8 wins.

Suck suck suck suck suck and suck.

Anyway. I finally got around to turning my old home server into another MythTV frontend. That now brings the system to one Master backend (2 tuner cards), one Slave backend (2 tuner cards) combination frontend, and one standalone frontend. For years I’ve only ever had MythTV on the bedroom TV, but it really was time to move it to the living room as well. So far it is working great, but since the system has no tuner cards, I was in need of a remote. I did some searching and found a few that are supposed to work great. I ordered one and it should be arriving any day now. I’ll post how good it is if and when I get it working. Otherwise I will complain about it.

I rarely purchase much from eBay. Most of the stuff there scares me. I don’t care how many positive responses a seller gets. It’s just not in my nature to trust anyone; even more-so when that person is a stranger. Which is why I don’t generally buy anything from eBay that I need badly. I usually buy sports memorabilia and such. However, I have been having some problems with my laptop battery lately. I checked out a new replacement directly from HP.

$148.

That’s cheaper then the battery for my truck. That surely doesn’t sound worth it. After a bit of searching, I finally came across a “new in box direct replacement” from some seller in California. $33 plus shipping. It’s worth a shot at at price.

So far it’s working great. It was a generic replacement, so the section of the battery that fit into and locked on the side of the laptop itself didn’t fit properly. However, that piece slides right off; as does the same piece on my old battery. Switch-O-Change-O and all is wonderful. I charged it and the battery is running just fine, giving me about 4 hours of run time.

I am still shocked. The Eagles actually played and won a tough game. It looked shaky for quite a while, but the defense finally stepped up and put points on the board.

They are actually still in the playoff race, and if they win their next two games (Dallas and Atlanta) they will actually win the division. I seriously doubt they will beat the Cowboys, but I can certainly hope. That game is on Christmas day. I really hate to yell profanities on Christmas day…

I’ve been having more foot problems lately. Bad enough that I have been walking around with a cane. It’s really fun and I love the abuse from the people at work.

However, it was bad enough last night that I was crawling around the apartment instead of walking. That was also really fun. I scheduled an appointment at a podiatrist tomorrow morning in hopes of getting to the bottom of this.

I was at least productive at home today. I updated some servers at work and did a little user maintenance as well. When that was finished, I finally upgraded MythTV to the most recent version (.20). Everything went fairly well until I got to the MythWeb part. There are several different versions (.20 patch releases, etc) and I couldn’t find the versions that matched. After some searching, however, I was back in business and working well.

Jen and I finally broke down and talked ourselves into getting two cats. You can see their pictures at my gallery site. So far, their names are Midas (a 3 year old male) and Ping (a 1.5 year old female). We certainly didn’t pick these names, that’s what they were named at the shelter.

Ping, the female, likes to hiss and growl a lot at the male. It’s quite fun actually, because the much larger male just looks at her and ignores it. We got them last night, so today was their first day alone. Either they learned to get along or one will be a wrecked mess when I get home.

Now I just need to go through my list of Sci-Fi character names so I can rename them…

Hockey is only just over 17 hours away. I can hardly wait. It’s been a long time since I’ve really played any type (an actual game or just screwing around) of hockey and I miss it. I hope the game lasts…

There hasn’t been much going on lately. Work has been surprisingly quiet. I hope it lasts, I really do. I’ve been playing a lot of games lately now that I have purchased Cedega. It makes life so much easier. I was really getting tired of booting into Windows just to play games.

We started playing Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 last night. I used to hate the game. I can’t even remember why after a solid night of gaming last night. I think I might like it even better then some of the others (Counter Strike, etc) that I have played recently. Maybe it’s the fact that I can drive a tank and blow the bejesus out of enemy tanks.

It does a lot to help stress levels.

I’ve had my current laptop for a almost two years. It has really held up well, but I believe that the battery is finally on its way out. I checked HP’s website and a replacement should cost about $168. Wow that makes me shiver. It was working just fine and then one day I accidentally let it run completely out and shut the laptop off. I always read that you should do this every once and a while to properly drain the battery. I guess it just got old, but $168 seems like a lot.

Maybe it’s time for a new laptop? I hope I win the lotto.
