I usually don't tend to keep old things. Most times when it comes to holding on to an old and possibly "sentimental" item, I just tend to outright trash it.

Except when dealing with old computer hardware. I then move it to my special "junk drawer", which these days holds some really classic stuff.

I can't believe I missed a post yesterday. Alas, yesterday I was out of the office at an interesting conference on video distribution through standard network cabling. It was what I would consider a bit long winded and boring, but I got a free mug out of it anyway.

Free stuff is good...

The conference was sponsored by the local Lehigh Valley PBS station.

I think these last few days can be deemed as "take a stupid picture of anything" week.

Today was starting to look very grim. After being at work for only ten minutes, I broke the pin in my watch. I can't live without my watch. Its McGuyver time. One paper clip and a set of wire cutters certainly did the trick. Not as pretty to look at, but hey, who is.

Not bad...

I also got a chance to use the Macro-focus feature on my camera.

I finally, after months of indecision, broke down and decided to purchase a Microsoft Optical IntelliMouse. All I can say is get one, and get one now. If you do any graphics editing whatsoever, this little sweetheart can make your life about one hundred times easier. Smooth tracking as well as some sweet configurable buttons really make this a great idea.

I'm not positive why, but I have been in a strange mood lately...

And when this happens, I take pictures of strange things that I stumble across. I found this in my parking spot and it looks interesting. To me anyway...

There are a few simple things make the life of a Systems and Network Administrator just a bit easier...

Incoming call...

Caller ID on our digital phone system. My savior...

Such a pretty blue...

In addition to becoming more mature, I have also come to understand the concept of humility.

My office has wall-to-wall carpet, so I decided to purchase some carpet protectors and place them where I knew my office chair would roll over most. This was a fine idea, but the edge of the protector isn't always the smoothest thing. Actually, it sometimes seems like a ten-foot-high speed bump.

Yes, those are my legs at the bottom of the image...

Falling on my ass, my webcam catching it, and someone sending me the image definitely makes me understand humility. All too well...

There is one word that I thought I would never use in the same sentence with a description of myself; Maturity.

Of course, this all boils down to stupid people; but hey, what doesn't essentially? Not so long ago, I would deal with stupid people in a very discreet and simple way. I would excuse myself from the room, go into my office, and bash something to tiny pieces. And if that didn't resolve it, I would then shot-put different objects to see just how far I could make them fly. And fly they did...

But I have matured. I have grown older. I now do what any mature adult would do in the face of stupidity. I laugh right at them. And I make sure to point out that they are morons. Point at them. Laugh loud! It helps.

What can I say, it's a long process, and the only way to completely evolve is through baby-steps.

Addiction is a very strange, and yet wonderful thing.

Most times you never know you are even addicted to something until you have to live without it, even for a short time.

Yes, I forgot my damned Palm at home this morning. Drat.

I finally decided to head to the local
Radio Shack and pick up my very own FREE :Cue Cat. It seems to work fairly well, but a lot of items that I am interested in aren't loaded into the :Cue Cat database. Yet. I can definitely see room for growth with this little baby.

On the flip side, the last thing I need is something else sucking power from my PS/2 keyboard port, as well as another little program running in the system tray. What can I say, I am a good complainer...

Some things just have an odd way of working out...

Sometimes people, including myself, try so hard to reach a certain goal or strive to have something happen that we end up screwing it up in the end. I think I have learned that sometimes rolling the dice and letting things happen by themselves is a good thing. It seems that they tend to work out just fine, and most likely better then you expected. And all with very little effort or headache.

What does all this mean? Don't worry about it. Don't be happy, don't be sad, just be. Some things will take care of themselves.

The

Can anyone say "recharged"?

After returning from the wedding this weekend, I can feel only about 1000% better. Hell, I'm even excited to go back to work, as odd as that may sound. Anytime you feel a bit overworked and run down, run to the nearest RadioShack, buy any and all flashlights and a huge strobe light. Get some great Techno/Rave music, shut off all lights, and get to work. It's beyond dumb, but it will make you laugh your ass off for a good hour straight. Throwing some beer in there does make the experience just that bit MORE goofy as well.

And yes, I have pictures. I'm working on them.

The Appalachian Trail weekend was one of the best experiences I have had in a while. It was also one of the toughest physically. Carrying about 60lbs+ on your back for almost 14 miles in two days is no small task, especially for a computer geek.  We split the trip into two days, stopping to camp the night somewhere in the middle.  Since the weather was rather hot and muggy, we didn't actually get much sleep.  We resumed the hike at about 6:30am the next morning so we could get the bulk of the hiking complete before the sun started to pound down on us. We concluded the trip just shy of noon on Sunday. Thanks to John for organizing the whole thing, it was definitely a great time. And here are the pictures!!

This is going to be one sweet weekend. A whole group of us were planning on walking a local section of the
Appalachian Trail. It turns out, for many different reasons, everyone but two have bailed. John and I.

Pray it doesn't rain. Much.
