Wednesday, August 30, 2000I once heard someone say the phrase, "You just have to love stupid people". Well I have a little phrase of my own for them, "Lock and Load".This morning a teacher called my office complaining that "her printer was gone". She had taken a year sabbatical and when she left, she had a cheap laser printer in her classroom. It just so happens that this very laser printer was the one that I removed from the face of the earth a short time ago. Remember? I explained to her how we have removed cheaper individual printers and replaced them with more efficient and higher quality workgroup laser printers. To which she replied, "You mean I have to walk to get my printout now?" Did she mention, "Wow, thanks for buying us all expensive printers that have a much better print quality" or "that are 80% faster then my other printer." Nope. So to remedy the problem, I took a nice picture of a laser printer,
![]() printed it on some high quality paper, and taped it alongside her desk.

Problem solved! I can't wait to hear her response...

It seems that good old John has switched his Metajohn site to the
new Thinkhole project. We all know John, this is just going to get
better and better...

Tuesday, August 29, 2000Someday I may have to buy myself a large caliber weapon and go on a hostile shooting spree.
![]() I just love companies that call to ask me my opinion on their products.
And my exact opinion of them they do receive...

Monday, August 28, 2000The weekend is over, and it's time to get back to "work".It started out with a trip to Connecticut with plans of going to Six Flags New England. It is one sweet park. I was surprised to see that they actually had a beer stand. Which, was a very good thing. Thanks to Chad, Jen, and Jen for the invite, it was a most excellent weekend. I never used to be a person that would even attempt to ride "roller-coasters", but in essence Jen forced me to. Hey, even I can admit when I am out-gunned. And I gave in, what can I say, she is a sweetheart. Last, but certainly not least, on Sunday we headed to The Meadowlands to watch the Penn State Kick-off classic. The Lions faced off against USC. They didn't fair very well, being that the score ended up 29-5. It was still a great game and my first trip to The Meadowlands. Many thanks to all that made it happen, mainly Jen, Jen, Chad and their parents. I know what you came looking for; the pictures.
|
Friday, August 25, 2000Chad and Jen came up with a brilliant plan to head to Six Flags New England for a little weekend expedition, and they invited me to tag along. Nice! We are planning on meeting Jen's friend Jen there Saturday to storm the theme park.And yes, the camera is locked and loaded.

Thursday, August 24, 2000Am I the only one that can remember when MTV actually played something called a music video? I don't usually watch MTV for anything other then the Real World, and it seems that boredom does strange things to a person sometimes. I've noticed that anytime between 3:00pm and 5:00pm all that is aired are "rap videos". And I think I can sum up every damned rap and hip-hop video out there in three words:"Half Nekkid Chicks". Damn, I am no great screen writer, but someone please come up with another concept for a rap video besides fancy cars and scattered half-nudity. It does, unbelievably, get old after a while.

Heh heh heh. Don't stay up late, it's not good. I'm begging you.

Tuesday, August 22, 2000I didn't take many pictures this weekend, only because I didn't trust myself to walk around with my camera. But one of the great shots I did get is a great retort to John's little picture posting:

Monday, August 21, 2000After nearly three months of remaining complexly free of the hideous beast, I finally gave into its overwhelming powers...I had to drink coffee. I think the bachelor weekend at Penn State really wore me down. But after two quick cups of my special freshly-ground coffee, I was back to feeling alive, awake, and above all, chipper again. I think overall, everyone had a really great time this weekend. Friday night we just hung around the house and guzzled some beer and watched some ...."movies". Everyone, except for myself, blacked out around midnight. For some reason, I have this strange ability to stay awake too long. Which brings me to my next problem, arising early. Although there was no earthly reason for me to wake up early, my body does so anyway. Everyone was alive again at around 8:00am. Deciding there was nothing else of consequence to do, we had breakfast. Beer. You can tell that your party is in for some serious shenanigans when you hear:
Contestant #1, "We really should leave this place and hit a few bars already..." We did eventually drag ourselves out into the sunshine and got some lunch as well as a few 23oz. drafts for $2.00. To make a long story short (too late), we stumbled around Penn State University from bar to bar, before heading back for a late night food raid, and then eventually we drifted off to a quiet slumber. Thanks to everyone who showed up, and more importantly to Mike, who let us use his place.
|
Saturday, August 19, 2000We have arrived at Penn State University. Most of the night passed away with drinking and DVD movies. Mike, my younger brother and the owner of the place we are staying at, hasn't shown up yet.Tonight the real fun should start. We are having a bacheler party for Chad, who is going to be married next month. Two words, yeee-haww.

Friday, August 18, 2000Boredom is truly defined as "one person throwing a pen off of his office wall and his assistant not only recording it, but saying that it is actually pretty cool."

As you can see, I had a rather slow day at work. Come on, it's Friday and I am about to go away to
Penn State University
for the weekend. I don't want to strain myself.

Thursday, August 17, 2000It has been brought to my attention by numerous people that I have recently fallen into what can be described as "a really pissy mood." Versus the other days when I am always happy and fluffy...I just want to apologize for being a bitch recently. I truly do hate being in a poor mood, and much worse, I hate other people to notice and actually call me on it. I'm not always like this. Just look at a picture I swiped from John, I couldn't smile more if I tried. The picture is a bit small, but you get the idea.
![]() So from this point on, I will only speak of cute things. Cuddly things. Nice things.
Except for Bill Gates, he just all together pisses me off. And stupid people. And
some Mac users....and and and....

Wednesday, August 16, 2000Today is turning out to be a longer day then I had originally planned...I had discovered that the company that installed our Digital PBX and internal voicemail system are basically a group of mental midgets. They created around two thousand extra voicemail boxes then we would ever need. So today, after about six months of use, the voicemail was reporting that "the system capacity is at maximum, and no more recordings can be made." After some searching in the internet, I found the software to edit the voicemail. Then I learned that there is no easy way to delete multiple mailboxes. We decided to try some different methods to accomplish this effortlessly, and here is my favorite:
![]() We used a laptop running some DTMF Tone Generating software to generate tones and delete one hundred mailboxes at a time. How did we tie the phone to the laptop? High-tech stuff...a combination of masking tape and some computer speakers.
What can I say, MacGyver was
AND is my hero.

It has been a while, but I'm back to complain. The people that I consider the most dangerous to my own well being are the computer users that have a small bit of knowledge. These people mutter things like "Oh, I know what I'm doing, so I just started to delete some stuff from my hard drive, to speed it up a little bit." Then their system is on my repair bench because they somehow deleted important "stuff". I really do hate to say this next phrase, but it has to be done. You Mac People piss me off. It's not so much that you like Macs; I have no problem with that. It's the fact that you must inform us PC people of it every three minutes. "These PC's are useless, I need my good old Mac. It's faster, runs better, and it has a pretty case color." Some Mac people think they are in their own unique world. Stay there and leave me alone. My solution! I will take back the brand new PC that we bought and you can buy your own Mac. Either that or I can spray paint the outside of the PC to match any color you like. A nice glossy black? Forest Green? Patriot Blue? Salsa Red? Take your pick...

Tuesday, August 15, 2000![]() "If my computer doesn't notice that I am not looking, maybe this program will finally work the way I want it to."
It's an old computer geek trick.

Monday, August 14, 2000Microsoft Windows just plain old pisses me off sometimes.I have a portable infrared ink-jet printer that I use on occasion with my laptop. I just love how Windows likes to tell me every time that I turn the printer off. "Communication with Infrared Device Lost".
![]()
Really? Might it have to do with the fact that I turned the printer off?
Why does Windows think that it is more intelligent than I? Bite me Bill Gates, bite me.

Sunday, August 13, 2000A busy, busy weekend...Friday evening someone came up with the idea of heading to Musikfest. It, of course, was packed full pf people, mainly about a million teenie-boppers. Maybe I am starting to get old, but they were everywhere. I had a pretty decent time there, but I doubt I will do back again.Saturday evening we decided to take a trip to the mall and get some wedding gift shopping completed. John, Maia, Amanda, and I walked through every store in the mall, just to waste time. For dinner, we headed to Don Pablo's. Lastly, back to my house to calm down and check out a movie. And there, I got a great picture of John performing his Matrix pose.

Friday, August 11, 2000I actually had a rather busy morning already!I did, however, get a chance to add my new webcam. Instead of being located in the school district's server closet, I added another to my desk. I am there most of the day. Behind me you can usually see my Intern Assistant as well as my technical repair bench. It updates every 20 seconds. Check it out. I also have another cam that I will be installing at home. Not like anyone cares, but most people seem to like to peer into other people's lives. Admit it, we are all sick little monkeys.

Thursday, August 10, 2000Boredom is a very strange and wonderful thing...For those of you that have never seen the shipping box that a Compaq Prolient Network Server is packaged in, let me describe it. It's big. And I, with my infinite wisdom, decided that it was large enough for me to jump into. And yes, I did it in front of the web cam.

Wednesday, August 09, 2000Never ask for advice from John regarding the female half of the species. Because if you do, this will be the type of answer you may get:
<john>
if (goforit)
{
while(workmojo(matt) == TRUE)
{
matt.getsome();
}
}
else
{
matt.spankit();
}
I think the logical choice is apparent. </john>
He cracks me up...

Four people. An innocent idea. Until... Chad, Jen, Mike, and I decided to hit the sports bar Rookies for some buffalo wings and beer. After having multiple pitchers of said beer, we came up with a plan. THE plan, actually. On the way home, we decided that at the next red stop light, we were determined to pull a "Chinese Fire Drill". Just as we are entering back into the car, we see some lovely flashing lights!
Officer: "I know I didn't just see you run around in my street..." Can you get a ticket for being a moron? I didn't think so...

Tuesday, August 08, 2000Lazy, lazy day...I was bored at work today, so added some JavaScript to my Pictures pages. It allows me to load each clicked image into a template page. Slightly nicer on the eyes, but no big deal. Thanks to Tad for the JavaScripting. Tad is my "intern" at the school district. Can you believe that? I have an intern?! heh heh...

Saturday, August 05, 2000I have been experiencing more lock-up problems with my Net connection lately, and the only remedy as of now is a hardware reboot. That is all well and good if I am at home, and I needed a similar remote control possibility. And here it is:
![]() Thanks to the folks at X10, I can now turn on and off up to ten devices via my telephone. Each device needs a module that plugs into your house wiring, and then the device plugs into the module. And even better, you can purchase RadioShack's less expensive Plug and Power modules and use them with the system.
The possibilities are endless.

Thursday, August 03, 2000I have a deep passion for arcades. Wildwood, NJ is famous for it's boardwalk arcades. Chris and I were playing a few different games when we noticed a new addition to our favorite arcade. The new machine allowed us, for two dollars, to email an image to anyone of your choice.
